Essential events including Moondance Festival and Hackney Summer Fete, plus red hot releases from Hollie Cook, Rat & Co and Bob Driller’s unmissable ‘Frisco pop’ party banger…
Kicking off the summer season this year at Outpost was our very own NorthSide festival in Denmark. It’s been a pleasure working alongside them to introduce their incredible line up and dedicated green ethos to a UK audience over the last couple of months, and exceptionally rewarding to witness the sold out 40k event in all its glory at the weekend.
One thing we really didn’t expect to see was Frank Ocean. He was on the line up of course, but after pulling out at the last minute from a number of major bookings at Hangout, Sasquatch and Primavera Sound, we were impressed by NorthSide’s dedication to pull off the elusive legend’s first performance in three years. He debuted a number of tracks from the ‘Blonde’ LP and showcased a production that proved Frank Ocean’s phenomenal artist vision beyond doubt. It’s a bold move to bring to a festival show your own surround sound system, gigantic spot lights, an HD screen the size of the stage and a disco-ball adorned platform that runs right out into the centre of the crowd. It was a special moment to say the least and was reported on around the globe by over 400 online publications.
The European Capital of Culture, and Denmark’s second city, Aarhus – also hosted huge sets from Radiohead and James Blake, a homecoming show for MØ and a high energy performance from RTJ to get us in the festival spirit first thing on Friday – after staying up for the UK election the night before we definitely appreciated the much needed energy injection, and Killer Mike’s S/O for JC!
Other noteworthy mentions go to the food vendors at NorthSide, everything is 100% organic, reasonably priced and tasty af. The fact there’s no camping on site also came into its own, the weather wasn’t kind to us this year, but having the opportunity to enjoy the delights Aarhus was a real bonus. We can’t wait to see what NorthSide has in store for 2018, and we suggest you save the date as well!
Thanks to The Fader, Pitchfork, Complex, Dazed, FACT, NME, DIY, Independent, Telegraph, Mirror, Express, Sun, Yahoo, MSN, Gigwise, Metro and more, for helping us spread the good word of NorthSide internationally.
