Hollie Cook (Mr Bongo)
The summer of 2011 welcomed the self titled debut album by Hollie Cook on Mr Bongo Recordings. Hollie’s self-coined ‘tropical pop’ sound stems from her passion for reggae singers Janet Kay and Phyllis Dillon combined with classic 60s girl groups.
Mr Bongo came to Outpost to promote Hollie’s two singles and album release. Early support from John Kennedy (XFM) Steve Lamacq (Radio 2/6 Music) and David Rodigan (Kiss) led to more airplay across BBC Radio 2, 1Xtra and very strong support from 6 Music – Rebel Playlist, a memorable Roundtable appearance and Album Of The Day. Hollie has since gone onto record a Maida Vale session for Huw Stephens to broadcast in October 2011.
Press support for the album including Mojo, Word, The Wire, BBC, i-D, Echoes, Financial Times, Songlines and The Mirror has added to Hollie's growing reputation. The campaign culminated in her appearance on Later... with Jools Holland, which is available to watch here.
